Ask an AI tool for a website and you’ll get something on screen in minutes. That part is real, and in 2026 it works better than ever. But a page that looks finished isn’t the same as a site that loads fast, reads well in Arabic, works with a screen reader and doesn’t carry a security hole in a copied snippet. If you want to build a WordPress site with AI, the smart move is to know exactly which parts AI handles well, which parts it gets wrong, and where a person still has to check the work.
This guide walks through the real options available today, verified from each vendor’s own pages, a practical workflow you can follow, an honest look at cost and time, and the point where it makes sense to bring in a developer.
What “building with AI” actually means in 2026
“AI website builder” is used for very different tools. Some generate a whole site from one prompt. Some live inside a page builder and help you design one section at a time. Others are general chat assistants or code editors that write the theme or plugin code for you. It helps to sort them into four groups:
- Hosted AI builders: you describe the site, the platform generates pages, layout, images and copy, and hosting comes with it.
- Host AI builders: web hosts that generate a starting WordPress site for you when you buy a hosting plan.
- Page builder AI: AI features inside a builder you already use, such as Elementor or Divi.
- General assistants and AI code editors: tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor or GitHub Copilot, used to plan the site, draft content and write custom code.
WordPress itself also gained AI building blocks in version 7.0, but those are infrastructure for plugins rather than a site builder. More on that below.
The real options, tool by tool
WordPress.com AI website builder
WordPress.com, run by Automattic, offers an AI website builder on its paid plans. According to its official page, you type a prompt and it generates pages, layouts, images and copy. You can then ask for changes in plain language, such as a darker hero or a new testimonials section, or edit by hand in the block editor, and you can undo AI edits. After launch, a tool it calls the WordPress Agent stays in the editor to draft pages, update copy and generate images.
Two details matter for business owners. First, WordPress.com says the AI build flow is currently focused on blogs, portfolios, service sites and business pages, and doesn’t include ecommerce. You add WooCommerce afterwards. Second, it runs on WordPress.com’s managed hosting, and the page says you can export your full site at any time.
Host AI builders: Hostinger and Bluehost
Several hosts now generate a WordPress site as part of signing up:
- Hostinger AI Website Builder for WordPress builds a site from one prompt, then lets you edit it in the native block editor. Hostinger says it’s included with its Business WordPress hosting and all cloud hosting plans. Its support guide notes that all WordPress-supported languages are available for the generated site, and that the generated color palettes meet WCAG contrast standards.
- Bluehost WordPress AI Builder, previously called WonderSuite, asks for your site title, site type and a description of your business, then shows three AI-generated WordPress designs to compare. You pick one and customize it in the WordPress editor. Bluehost says it’s included with its WordPress and Web Hosting plans.
Elementor AI and Angie
Elementor’s AI page now centers on Angie, which Elementor describes as agentic AI for WordPress. You describe a page and Angie builds it as real, editable Elementor content, including sections, content and styling. It can also generate a starting design system of classes and variables from your brand details or a screenshot. Forms and dynamic loops built by Angie require Elementor Pro. Elementor also lists Angie Code for custom widgets and snippets, and an Elementor MCP that connects tools like Claude, Cursor and Codex to your Elementor site. Elementor says Angie has a free plan with daily-renewing AI credits.
Divi AI
Elegant Themes says Divi AI can generate full websites and pages from a prompt, write and improve copy, generate and edit images, and write HTML, CSS and JavaScript inside Divi’s code module. Divi Quick Sites generates a whole site with global styles and templates, and the newer Divi AI Agent lets you build and manage pages, menus and Theme Builder templates through chat inside the Visual Builder. Divi AI is sold as part of Elegant Themes’ paid offering, so check the current pricing on their site.
The AI building blocks in WordPress 7.0
WordPress 7.0 “Armstrong” was released on May 20, 2026. It added the WP AI Client and a Connectors screen for managing AI providers, building on the Abilities API from 6.9. None of this builds a site for you. It’s plumbing that lets plugins talk to AI models in a standard way. The official AI plugin on wordpress.org builds on it with opt-in experiments such as title, excerpt, alt text, meta description and slug suggestions, plus content translation of paragraph and heading blocks. We covered the details in our guide to AI in WordPress 7.0, so here we’ll stay focused on the building process.
General assistants and AI code editors
Chat assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude are useful before you touch WordPress at all: planning the sitemap, drafting page outlines, writing first drafts of copy. AI code editors such as Cursor or GitHub Copilot help a developer write a block theme, a custom block or a small plugin faster. These tools are flexible, but they don’t know your site, and whatever code they produce is your responsibility once it’s on the server.
Comparing the options side by side
| Option | Best for | Editing after generation | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| WordPress.com AI website builder | Blogs, portfolios, service and business pages | Prompts or the block editor | No ecommerce in the AI build flow, requires a paid plan |
| Hostinger AI builder for WordPress | A quick starting site on Hostinger hosting | Block editor | Only on specific hosting plans |
| Bluehost WordPress AI Builder | Choosing between three generated designs | WordPress editor | Available after buying a hosting plan |
| Elementor with Angie | Sites already built on Elementor | Elementor editor | Forms and loops need Elementor Pro, credit limits on the free plan |
| Divi AI | Divi users and agencies | Divi Visual Builder | Paid product, ties the site to Divi |
| ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, Copilot | Planning, copy drafts, custom code | Anything, since you paste the output yourself | No knowledge of your site, code must be reviewed |
What AI does well
- First drafts. A rough homepage, an About page, service descriptions. Getting past the blank page is where AI saves the most time.
- Layouts. Builders like Elementor, Divi and the hosted builders can produce a reasonable section structure quickly, which you then refine.
- Content structure. Ask an assistant for a sitemap or a page outline based on your services and it will usually give you a sensible starting point.
- Boilerplate code. Registering a custom post type, a block pattern, a
theme.jsonskeleton. Repetitive code that follows documented patterns is a good fit. - Variations. Five headline options, three color palettes, two layout ideas for the same section. AI is good at giving you choices to react to.
Where AI still falls short
Arabic copy and RTL layout
This is the first thing we check on sites for Egypt and the Gulf. AI-generated Arabic often reads like a translation: correct words, wrong rhythm, odd word choices, and a mix of formal Arabic and dialect in the same paragraph. Layouts have their own problems. A design generated for English may put icons, arrows and padding on the wrong side when the page switches to right-to-left.
The W3C recommends setting the direction on the html element with dir="rtl" when the overall document is right-to-left. WordPress themes can check is_rtl() to load RTL styles, and modern CSS logical properties avoid most of the mirroring work:
.card {
margin-inline-start: 1rem;
padding-inline-end: 1.5rem;
text-align: start;
}
AI tools often write margin-left and text-align: left instead, which breaks in Arabic. Always preview every generated page in Arabic, on a phone, before you approve it.
Accessibility
WordPress core and official plugins are expected to conform to WCAG 2.2 at level AA. Generated layouts don’t automatically meet that bar. Common issues: headings chosen for size rather than order, buttons that are really styled divs, missing labels on form fields, low contrast text over images, and alt text that is empty or generic. Test with a keyboard alone and run an accessibility checker on each template.
Performance
Google’s Core Web Vitals targets are an LCP of 2.5 seconds or less, an INP of 200 milliseconds or less and a CLS of 0.1 or less, measured at the 75th percentile. AI builders tend to add large generated images, extra sections, animations and several fonts. Each one costs speed. Compress images, remove sections you don’t need, and limit yourself to one or two font families. Our guide to speeding up Arabic WordPress sites covers the details.
Security of generated code
The WordPress developer handbook is blunt: don’t trust any data, sanitize input, escape output as late as possible, and rely on WordPress’s own functions. AI code sometimes skips these steps, especially in quick snippets. A typical example:
<?php
// Risky: prints user input as-is
echo $_GET['name'];
// Safer: sanitize on input, escape on output
$name = sanitize_text_field( wp_unslash( $_GET['name'] ?? '' ) );
echo esc_html( $name );
Also check for missing nonces on forms, missing capability checks on admin actions, and API keys written straight into theme files. If you’re adding AI plugins as part of the build, read our checklist on WordPress AI plugin security.
Licensing and ownership
WordPress is licensed under the GPL, and plugins in the WordPress.org directory must be GPL-compatible, including bundled libraries and images. If an AI tool pulls in code or assets from somewhere else, you need to know their license before you ship them. Copyright in AI-generated output is also still being worked out. The US Copyright Office, for example, published a report on the copyrightability of generative AI outputs in January 2025. Read the terms of each tool you use, especially for generated images and logos.
Brand voice
AI writes in an average voice. Your customers in Cairo or Riyadh chose you for a reason, and that reason rarely survives a generic draft. Treat generated copy as a structure to rewrite, not text to publish.
How to build a WordPress site with AI: a practical workflow
- Write a one-page brief first. Who the site is for, what they should do on it (call, book, buy, message you on WhatsApp), which languages, and the five to seven pages you need. AI produces much better output from a clear brief.
- Use an assistant to plan. Ask for a sitemap, page outlines and a list of the questions customers ask. Edit the result until it matches how your business actually works.
- Pick one builder. Use the table above. If you’re already on Elementor or Divi, use their AI. If you’re starting fresh and don’t need a store, a hosted or host builder is the fastest start.
- Generate on staging, not on the live site. If you’re replacing an existing site, work on a staging copy and keep a backup.
- Replace the copy. Rewrite every heading and paragraph in your own words. For Arabic, write the Arabic version directly or have a native writer adapt it. Don’t publish a machine translation.
- Fix the layout for RTL and mobile. Check every page in Arabic on a real phone. Look at icons, arrows, menus, forms and tables.
- Run an accessibility pass. Heading order, contrast, labels, keyboard navigation and alt text that describes the image in the page’s language.
- Review any generated code. Sanitizing, escaping, nonces, capability checks and no hardcoded keys. If you can’t judge this yourself, have a developer review it.
- Measure speed. Test key pages with PageSpeed Insights and fix the biggest issues before launch.
- Set up the basics. SEO plugin, sitemap, analytics, backups, updates and a security plugin or firewall.
A cost and time reality check
We won’t give you a price or a number of hours, because both depend on the tool, the plan and the site. What we can say from real projects is where the time goes:
- Generation is the fast part. The first version really does appear in minutes.
- Review is the slow part. Rewriting copy, fixing Arabic, adjusting RTL, testing on mobile and checking accessibility take far longer than generating.
- Subscriptions add up. A hosted builder, a page builder license, AI credits and image tools are often separate charges. Check each vendor’s current pricing page, and note which features sit behind higher plans, such as Elementor Pro for Angie’s forms and loops.
- Usage-based AI costs money per request. If you connect your own provider key, bulk jobs like generating alt text for thousands of images cost real money. Start with a small batch.
- Fixing later costs more. A layout that breaks in Arabic or a snippet with a security hole is cheaper to catch before launch than after.
When you still need a developer
AI tools are good enough for a simple brochure site, a portfolio or a blog, if you’re willing to do the review work yourself. Bring in a developer when:
- You need a WooCommerce store with local payment gateways, shipping rules and VAT invoicing.
- The site is bilingual Arabic and English and has to be properly set up for both languages and both search audiences.
- You need custom functionality: bookings, memberships, integrations with a CRM or ERP, or custom blocks.
- You’ve generated code and can’t judge whether it’s safe.
- Speed, accessibility or SEO results matter to your business and you need someone accountable for them.
- You’re migrating an existing site with traffic you can’t afford to lose.
A good developer uses the same AI tools to move faster, then does the checking and fixing that the tools can’t. That’s what our WordPress development service is built around.
Frequently asked questions
Can AI build a complete WordPress site on its own?
It can build a complete first version, with pages, layout, images and copy. It can’t judge whether the Arabic reads naturally, whether the site is accessible, or whether the code is safe. That review is still your job or your developer’s.
Which AI builder is best for an Arabic site?
There’s no single answer. Whatever you choose, test it with Arabic content and an RTL layout before committing, and expect to rewrite the generated Arabic copy.
Does WordPress 7.0 build websites with AI?
No. WordPress 7.0 added infrastructure, the AI Client and the Connectors screen, that plugins use to talk to AI providers. Site generation comes from builders and plugins, not from core.
Is AI-generated code safe to use on a live site?
Only after review. Check that input is sanitized, output is escaped, forms use nonces and admin actions check permissions. Test it on staging first.
A final word
AI has made the first version of a site cheap and fast. The parts that decide whether a site actually works for your customers, clear Arabic, a correct RTL layout, speed, accessibility and safe code, still take human attention.
